The sculpture was created by Erik Neukirchner in 2009 and erected here in 2023 on the green space between the Old Town Bridge and the Vierradenmühle. It is the centerpiece of a memorial to Görlitz's mayor, Ulf Großmann. The figure addresses the responsibility of the individual and refers to the work of the mayor, who was also president of the Saxon Cultural Foundation. He was a designer and used the possibilities of art and culture to connect people, build bridges, and leave a lasting mark on Görlitz's cultural life.
