The oldest mill in the city of Hameln
The Pfortmühle, built in 1405 and originally belonging to the city of Hameln, became private property in 1879. The Hameln entrepreneur Friedrich Wilhelm Meyer bought the Werdermühle in 1872 and had the current mill building built after the Pfortmühle fell victim to a fire in 1894/95. The Pfortmühle was actually used as a mill until 1968.
At the end of the 1980s - the building is now owned by the city of Hameln again - the Pfortmühle was renovated so that the Hameln city library moved into the premises in the Plfortmühle in 1990.
The Pfortmühle has also housed the city archives and the culture office of the city of Hameln since the end of 2003.
