    Sogliano al Rubicone

The toponym seems to derive from Fundus Solliani, the original name of the territory on which the town arose.

In the medieval period, Sogliano was a castle of the Malatesta of Rimini, over which they exercised their most lasting dominion; in fact, they governed there until 1640, the year in which it passed to the Papal State.

Starting from the eighteenth century, three coal mines were opened in Capannaccio, Montegelli and Montetiffi, which remained active until the 1940s.

During the nineteenth century, by resolution of the city council, the castle, which stood at the highest point of the town, was demolished, creating in its place a large square, necessary for the town for its role as an important agricultural market.

In Piazza Matteotti there is the Butterfly Fountain

The valuable work Butterfly Fountain was designed by the artist Tonino Guerra and inaugurated in 2003. It has become one of the symbols of Sogliano al Rubicone; it represents a cry against the horror of war and a song to life. In a circular basin of black marble lies a mosaic butterfly, above which jets of water intertwine. "On a carpet, arrived in Romagna from the African desert, some butterflies want to detach themselves and take flight" - Tonino Guerra.
