Set into tremendous landscapes with two lochs and a reservoir surrounding its base, hiking to Ben Ledi’s summit is a popular adventure for good reason. This 2,884-foot (879 m) summit provides phenomenal views across the Trossachs as well as being accessible and possessing a well-maintained path.
While there are several hiking trails to choose from, the most popular begins at the southern end of Loch Lubnaig and gets busy in good weather. You’ll find the trails non-technical and, as a result, it makes for an ideal trek for those newer to mountain hiking as well as any hiker up for a beautiful jaunt.
Far reaching landscapes and forested slopes
When you hike up Ben Ledi, it’s the views that will capture your imagination. Thanks to its position in the far east of the Trossachs, you can gaze east across the Central Belt and its patchwork farmland with lochs Venachar and Lubnaig sparkling below.
The summit is marked by a cairn and trig point while an iron cross a little way to the south east stands as a memorial to Sergeant Harry Lawrie. A member of Killin Scottish Mountain Rescue, Lawrie lost his life on nearby Ben More during a rescue in the 80s.
A day hiking Ben Ledi is multifaceted thanks to a forested beginning and return, particularly if you descend via Stank Glen. Summiting doesn’t take long with reasonable fitness and, if you have time, stopping at the Falls of Leny on the way to Callander is a spectacular end to a hiking adventure.
Ben Ledi is well known for its windy summit and no matter what the weather looks like, always be prepared for changeable conditions and cloud. In winter the summit is still attainable for winter mountaineers.
Ben Ledi is one of the Trossach's most popular peaks. The mountain is well known for Walter Scott's Lady of the Lake poem, one of the many products of the Romantic era. Its summit stands proud above the Highland Fault Line and gives excellent views towards the Central Belt, the Ochils and the Campsie Fells, as well as north into the heart of the Southern Highlands.

The Ben Ledi is worth it! With good shoes, the very good paths up and down can be walked very well. Some fitness is required. Above wonderful views of the surrounding mountains, water and the town of Callander.
