Hike the easy Taylor Creek Trail, a 1.1-mile (1.8 km) route that takes about 30 minutes to complete. You will gain 161 feet (49 metres) as you venture into a narrow box canyon. The path winds through lush riparian vegetation, flanked by towering red rock cliffs. Your destination is the impressive Double Arch Alcove, a natural formation carved into Navajo sandstone. This trail offers a quieter hiking experience compared to other parts of Zion National Park.
Be prepared for multiple creek crossings along the way; these can involve shallow water, especially during spring, and may even be icy in winter. Trekking poles can provide extra stability for these sections and sandy stretches. Since this trail is within Zion National Park, remember to check the current park entrance requirements before you visit. This helps ensure a smooth and enjoyable trip.
As you hike, you will pass historic homestead cabins, such as the Larson Cabin, which offer a glimpse into the area's past. The highlight, the Double Arch Alcove, showcases unique geological erosion patterns in the Navajo sandstone. This natural feature makes the trail a distinctive experience within the park's diverse landscape.
