From A, like eel, to Z, like pikeperch, you can get everything a fish-loving stomach could desire at the Föh fish smokehouse in downtown Kappeln. For generations, the delicious, maritime specialties have been smoked and refined in traditional Altona ovens. There is no technical, lightning-fast process here; no, the boss, Hans-Friedrich Föh, still writes the smoking times by hand and with chalk on small boards that are attached in front of the smokehouses.

But: You can enjoy more than just smoked fish here; on a beautiful terrace, both holidaymakers and locals enjoy herring in a variety of flavors - homemade, of course. Fried fish and fish salads from Kappeln are just as legendary as the incomparably delicious fish sandwiches. There is even a saying in the beautiful Schlei town:

“Never say goodbye to Kappeln

without an eel from Föh”
