The Church of Alhama, whose origins date back to the 16th century, was rebuilt in 1672 after being destroyed during the Moorish revolt of 1569. Later, in 1747, it was expanded and its magnificent tower with an octagonal base was built. Originally built in the Mudejar style, it was damaged during the Civil War, temporarily becoming a municipal market and losing its images and liturgical ornaments.
The history of the Church of Alhama dates back to the 16th century, although the first documents mentioning it date from the end of the 17th century. After the burning of the churches during the Moorish revolt in 1569, the Alhama Church lay in ruins. It was not until 1672 that the Duke of Maqueda, Lord of Marchena, ordered its reconstruction. Originally it was a modest structure of about 186 square meters, probably built by Juan del Castillo.
