Two local families donated land for the construction of the current church and the rectory. They commissioned the well-known Cologne architect Vincenz Statz to plan the new church. In 1855, Statz was able to present his plans for the new building to the church council. Construction work began in 1856 after building permission had been granted by church and state authorities. The new parish church was completed just one year later. The old chapel was demolished in the meantime. The church was finally consecrated on June 13, 1860.
