The Mandichosee, also known as Lechstaustufe 23, is a reservoir on the Lech between Landsberg am Lech and Augsburg. It was built between 1975 and 1978 and is used both for hydroelectric power generation and for local recreation. Since 2003, the reservoir has been called the Mandichosee, named after the Bavarian prince Mandicho from the 6th century.

    Leisure activities:

    • Swimming: The lake has bathing beaches and lawns on both banks that are ideal for swimming and sunbathing.

    • Water sports: Activities such as sailing, surfing and stand-up paddling are popular. There are local clubs and a surf school that offer courses and equipment rental.

    • Hiking and cycling: Well-developed paths around the lake are ideal for walks and bike rides.

    • Fishing: The lake's abundance of fish makes it an attractive destination for anglers.

    Infrastructure:

There is a kiosk with toilet facilities, a playground, a beach volleyball court and a lifeguard station at the lake. Parking is also available.

    Nature conservation:

In 2016, a two-kilometer-long bypass waterway with a fish ladder was created to improve ecological continuity for fish.

Lake Mandicho thus offers an ideal combination of technical use and a wide range of leisure opportunities in a natural environment.
