Cesare Aureli (1843-1923) - Perseus with the head of Medusa. The statue represents the Greek hero Perseus, son of Zeus and Danae, who kills the gorgon Medusa and liberates the beautiful Andromeda, whom he marries.Aureli was inspired by the Apollo of the Belvedere, a marble statue from the II century AD, itself a copy of a bronze from the IV century BC. That statue is considered one of the most beautiful art works of all Antiquity and served as a model to numerous sculptors from the Renaissance to the 19th century, including Cesare Aureli. Now adorning the staff entrance to the executive offices of the City of Modena on via Scudari 20 (courtyard of the Palazzo Comunale).
