The old Jewish cemetery is probably one of the most beautiful parts of the entire Central Cemetery, it is located right next to Gate 1.

The old Jewish cemetery was maintained by the Schalom association in the 1990s. This association repaired much of the war damage and tried to motivate Vienna's citizens to help. Unfortunately, the response from the Viennese population was very low and so the care of the huge grave complex is still mainly the responsibility of the Vienna Jewish Community.

Occasional burials still take place in the old Jewish cemetery, but most of the current graves are in the new Jewish cemetery near Gate 4 of the Central Cemetery.

The old Israelite section of the Jewish cemetery at Vienna's Central Cemetery is located near Gate 1. It was established in 1874, when the Jewish community of Vienna was granted its own section in the then-new Central Cemetery.

Until the new section near Gate 4 was established, this area served as the main burial ground for the Jewish community and is characterized by historic gravestones, mausoleums, and honorary graves of numerous prominent Jewish figures. It is maintained by the Jewish Community of Vienna (IKG) and is open to the public. The old section near Gate 1 is an important testament to Vienna's Jewish history and a historical and cultural monument.
