Tips

  • Hahnenkamm Races Kitzbühel
Ski World Cup in Kitzbühel - when professionals conquer the Streif
When the first Hahnenkamm Race was held in Kitzbühel in 1931, no one could have expected that this would lay the foundation for one of the world's largest winter sporting events. Over the decades, both the downhill on the Streif and the slalom on the Ganslernhang have developed into classics in the Ski World Cup. For many athletes, a victory on one of the two traditional slopes is synonymous with an Olympic victory.
The Hahnenkamm Races will take place for the 85th time in 2025.

  • Start house on the Hahnenkamm in new splendor, Kitzbühel
Just in time for the 75th year of its use, the legendary start house on the Hahnenkamm was renovated and expanded. The floor space remained the same, but an additional floor was added.
It is as much a part of the Hahnenkamm race as the mousetrap, the Hausbergkante or the finish jump: the start house on the Hahnenkamm. Above all, the view from the start area towards the Streif always commands respect from even the greatest heroes. After 74 years, however, the building no longer met requirements. Especially during the race week, the toilets and wet rooms reached the limits of their capacity. So renovation work on the original material hut began in August 2020.
In the future, it will not only be the view down to the Mausefalle that will make people wide-eyed, but also the large room on the first floor: flooded with light thanks to a glass front facing the Steinbergkogel, the future event room - facing the Kitzbüheler Horn and Wilder Kaiser - leads onto a beautiful terrace. "This is where club events such as the gondola handover to the Hahnenkamm winner will take place," says Jan Überall, looking ahead to the coming summer. The new start house will then also be open to the public: as part of the 750th anniversary of the town of Kitzbühel, there will be a medal exhibition of the KSC legends from mid-July to early September.
The history of the legendary start house goes back to the time of the Second World War. At that time, it served as an air force barracks. In the autumn of 1946, the KSC finally approached the town council (as the landowner) and asked whether the barracks could be used for peaceful purposes. From then on, it remained a material hut for many years, only becoming a start house with regular extensions in the 1970s - the largest by far was in 2020.
