Bike Touring Highlight
Cycling is not permitted at this location
You'll need to dismount and push your bike.
The old Henrichenburg ship lift from 1899 and the new one from 1962 are only a few hundred meters apart. After visiting the boat lift, you can top off the day with a one-hour boat tour to the neighboring locks and the new lift on the Dortmund-Ems Canal in the direction of Münsterland. The guided tours for children are particularly recommended.

This highlight is one of the few in the lock park, which is almost suitably positioned to which of the many point-of-interests it should be, namely
Lock Park Waltrop / LWL Industrial Museum "Altes Hebewerk Henrichenburg" (1899-1969).
The artwork fits well, but because of the highlight growth in Schleusenpark, we also have pictures that are not suitable, because hardly anyone looks through all the inappropriate highlights.
A visit to these monuments of industrial history is always worthwhile, not only for technology fans. Canal shipping has made a significant contribution to our modern life, as it has made it possible to transport goods and manufactured goods in ever-increasing demand. If you visit this highlight, you should not miss the rest of the fascinating Lock Park Waltrop, here are many other highlights on a visit and offer attractions and opportunities for rest.

Lock Park Waltrop / Impressions
"Summary of several false highlight duplicates"
This highlight fits neither to "nature conservation" nor to "ship lift Henrichenburg". It shows in the pictures impressions from and around the lock park Waltrop.
From the position it lies on the middle of the lock park or on the today's footpath in the old slot lock.

Lock Park Waltrop / New Lift Henrichenburg (1962-2005)
The new lift was opened in 1962 and has a trough length of 90 m with a width of 12 m and 3 m water depth. The useful size is 85 m × 11.40 m × 2.50 m (effective length × useful width × draft). These dimensions allowed the then emerging European ship passage.
Technically speaking, the new elevator has the same construction principle as the old one, but the construction has been simplified. The number of floats in 52.5 m deep shafts has been reduced to two to compensate for the trough weight of 5000 t and a sub-level is eliminated because the trough and posture gates are designed as hinged gates (they turn downwards). The spindles are located in four separate towers, on a connecting elevator scaffold was omitted.
The new lift soon became too small for the requirements of canal shipping. In 1989, for example, the current savings lock with a length of 190 m, a width of 12 m and a drumming depth of 4 m was built next door.
The new elevator was used until December 2005, then shut down due to technical problems. A re-commissioning is questionable for cost reasons, especially since the port of Dortmund no longer has the freight volume of earlier days. If, however, - as in spring 2006 - problems or maintenance work on the modern lock, the port of Dortmund can no longer be called.
In order to fight for the preservation of the lift, a sponsorship association has since been established. He would like to receive the hoist not only as a building, but also in a serviceable condition.

Lock Park Waltrop / Land's End - headland in the upper water
The hitherto only highlight here in the lock park highlight wild growth chaos, which is actually positioned there as it's name and photos reflect.
The headland in the upper water lies exactly on the branch between the active waterway north and the former upper water of the old Schachtschleuse. The promontory is not only beautifully landscaped, it offers space and seating for a rest. From here you can watch the lock traffic.

Not far from the boat lift (about 5 minutes by bike) there is the nice farm cafe on the farm Niermann. In the summer you sit in the beautifully landscaped garden!

Old technology from that time is still interesting today and barely changed. Especially good to look at the museum and understand.

The old Henrichenburg ship lift from 1899 and the new one from 1962 are only a few hundred meters apart and belong to the Henrichenburg canal level of the federal waterway Dortmund-Ems-Kanal in Waltrop-Oberwiese. They are named after the former municipality Henrichenburg, today the northernmost district of Castrop-Rauxel, which extends from the south to close to the area. Responsible is the Water and Shipping Authority Duisburg-Meiderich.
The old elevator was supplemented in 1914 by a shaft lock with twice five Sparbecken. In the years 1958 to 1962 they built the new float-lifting, so that 1969 followed the decommissioning of the old elevator. The old manhole lock was replaced in 1989 by a savings lock with two saving tanks. Until 2005, the operation of the new elevator and the new lock was running in parallel. Since then, the shipping traffic flows only through the lock. All four buildings are part of the lock park Waltrop.

Construction began on 15 July 1985 and the lock was taken after a construction period of four years on 11 August 1989 in operation
