Hiking

The Keulaer Tiergarten nature reserve is a protected area of around 33 hectares. It is characterized primarily by its ancient forest stands. The area is located in the municipality of Weißkeißel, southwest of Krauschwitz or Keula, and runs along the Braunsteichgraben stream. It is known, among other things, for its historical, approximately 240-year-old plate pines on the Braunsteichweg, which are distinguished by a distinctive, large-scaled bark. It borders directly on two other important protected areas: the Hammerlugk marshland (approx. 74 ha) and the southern part of Braunsteich (approx. 124 ha).
