According to the information available to us, a total of 81 German soldiers are buried in this war cemetery. 75 of them, members of the 2nd MarInfDiv, fell in the battle for the Aller bridgehead at Rethem in the first half of April 1945. Photos: Volker Fleig 2011

Shortly before the end of World War II, in April 1945, Rethem became a military bridgehead over the Aller. The river crossing was fiercely fought over by British and German forces. A memorial stone in Londy Park and the graves in the Rethem war cemetery still commemorate this event.
