The first water mill was built on this site in 1654, but burned down during the great fire of Filipstad in 1694. Thanks to the income from the mill, it was possible to finance, among other things, the major construction of the church (1779-1785) and the first stone bridge in Filipstad in the mid-1780s. The current stone mill was completed in 1807.
The mill ceased operations in the 1940s. For almost 300 years it supplied the inhabitants of Filipstad with flour for their daily bread.
In 1976 the mill was declared a historical monument. After a.
renovation of the building in 1986 it was converted into a town museum.
The mill tap is the work of the artist Sivert Rapp (1922-1988%) from Sundbyberg. The artist - a well-known metal and wood sculptor - can be seen with many public works of art in the Swedish cities of Linköping, Jönköping, Skelleftea and Stockholm.
