😎The Great Silver Pond was created as a fish pond in the Middle Ages by the monks of this Cistercian monastery. For religious reasons, the monks' diet consisted largely of fish. Therefore, they created around 20 fish ponds in the surrounding area, but mainly on the monastery grounds. Many of these ponds are still there today and are used for fish farming, just as in ancient times.
