On July 20, 2020, a survey was held to decide whether the carillon on the Dokter Reilinghplein in Leerdam could return.
The bells of the carillon were removed because they were due for major maintenance, which was done in Asten at the bell foundry Koninklijke Eijsbouts.
"Joep van Brussel, deputy director of the bell foundry, believes that the carillon should definitely return to Leerdam: "We live in a throwaway society. We work with bells every day at our company. They sometimes date back to 1200 and are therefore already about 800 years old. What do we make these days that lasts that long? We are talking about something that may still be there in 300 years; we shouldn't throw that away, should we? That would be a shame, wouldn't it?"
