The monastery shaped the history of the village in the following centuries. During the Counter-Reformation, the order's settlement was dissolved by Prince-Bishop Julius Echter of Mespelbrunn. Heiligenthal was converted into an agricultural estate, as it produced agricultural products for the Juliusspital in Würzburg.
