A land, a family and a strong vocation write the history of Juvé and Camps, our history. Four generations rooted in the Penedès have left their mark, wisdom and a unique experience in each glass of our great wines and cavas.
To get to the beginnings of this story we must travel back to 1796. More than 200 years ago, Joan Juvé Mir, an enterprising and forward-thinking winemaker, built the foundations of the company. Later, his son Antoni Juvé took over, successfully facing the terrible consequences of phylloxera.
The first sparkling wine of the Juvé brand arrived in 1921. It was made in the underground facilities of the manor house of Sant Sadurní d’Anoia and, during that time, Joan Juvé, son of Antoni Juvé, and his wife Teresa Camps were in charge of the estate.
In the next generation, Josep and Joan Juvé Camps, sons of Joan and Teresa, became involved in the management of the company and boosted the business by building a new winery in the area around Sant Sadurní d’Anoia. In 1960, they themselves commissioned the expansion of the winery and the underground cellars. They also incorporated technical advances such as temperature control and pneumatic presses.
A year to remember at Juvé y Camps is 1972, the year of the creation of the first bottle of Gran Juvé Camps cava. It is an extraordinary gran reserva brut nature cava made with wine from the Espiells vineyard, only in special vintages. A few years later, in 1976, the Reserva de la Familia cava was launched. A gran reserva brut nature that was initially only intended for the exclusive consumption of the Juvé family.
The small family business had become a thriving business and very soon, in 1982, the cavas began to be exported internationally to the United Kingdom, the USA, Germany, Switzerland, Norway, Portugal, Russia, Japan, Peru, etc. Growth was also reflected in the estates with the construction of a new winery on the family estate in Espiells, where base wines were made for cava and for the ageing of still wines.
At the beginning of 2000, Juvé y Camps consolidated its leadership in the production of Premium and Gran Reserva cavas. Later, in 2010, the conversion of the vineyards began to achieve integrated and ecological viticulture. The result: a grape of better quality, oenological power and expression of the soils.
At Juvé y Camps we maintain the authenticity inherited from past generations and bring the innovation and modernity of a young spirit. We continue to write new pages in our history to turn our premium cavas and wines into a great legend.
