Rovni lake is drinking water accumulation that supplies whole Valjevo region. It covers area of 10.4km² and has maximum depth of 67m. Main rivers that supply the accumulation are Sušica and Jablanica.
Idea and construction of the dam start in 1988 but after few years funding dried out and project was stopped until 2001. Finally, in 2015 project was finished and lake started to be filled. Many families had to be relocated as their homes were flooded by the rising water level in the lake.
One of the most problematic buildings that was on water's way was Monastery and Church of Valjevska Gračanica from 15th century. After big debate and many citizen protests was decided to abandon old church/monestery and build new one, up on the hill.
The old church still stands, underwater, with many things left inside and can be visited as a part of scuba diving tour.
Interesting fact about the construction of the dam is that no concrete was used, only clay and stone. Dam is 76m high and 400m long. You can freely walk around and explore the area. Nature and views are mesmerizing.
Enjoy and respect.
