For decades, there has been a legend that over 30,000 soldiers died for their country at the Hartmannsweilerkopf (Hartmannswillerkopf / Vieil Armand). How did this high number come about, and does it stand up to critical scrutiny? Is it true that 12,000 unknown soldiers are buried in the crypt there? Even well-known historians doubt these figures, but so far no one has been able or willing to put an end to this. Now, in 2021, we will attempt to refute this legend.
