    Preserving a unique heritage:
    Marken holds its own place in Dutch history. The Marker Museum aims to make this uniqueness accessible to a wider audience in an attractive way. The operation of this small, special museum is part of the activities of the Association Historical Island of Marken (VHEM).
    This association stands for:

    • preserving the characteristics of the island of Marken for posterity;
    • preserving and promoting the "beauty of the island";
    • collecting, preserving, and processing source material relevant to the history of Marken in the broadest sense of the word.

      The Marker Museum is housed in six historical houses. The museum provides an image of Marken through changing exhibitions. Part of the museum is furnished as a Marker fishing family lived there until 1932. Characteristic of this are the stately bed, the 'whitewashed' walls hung with prints and plates and the chipboard boxes for traditional costume parts. The museum exhibits, among other things, Marker traditional costumes, work by the Marker painter Jan Moenis (1875-1953) and paintings by Reinier Peijnenburg (1884-1968). Low entrance fees and free admission with the museum annual card.
