From September 15, 2024, stamp station 13 of the hiking treasures of the Wild Homeland will be located at the forest education center. Please note that the stamp station is not located directly at the ruins of the Homburg! The castle area is currently being restored and has not yet been officially reopened.

The Homburg was built by the last Northeim count Siegfried IV of Bomeneburg as a hilltop castle on a 403-meter-high gypsum cone near Stadtoldendorf and was first mentioned in documents in 1129. It was about 103 m long, about 30 m wide and consisted of a main and outer castle. Remains of stairs from the castle gate, a well over 100 meters deep that once secured the water supply for the castle residents, a vault, walls and the keep, which is currently being restored, have been preserved.

Great walk with a view from the castle ruins. On the way there is a very nice newly designed playground with a cable car and much more. At the end a friendly team from the Mittendorffs Park forest restaurant is waiting. The tower itself is still closed!
