The first information about the presence of manganese on Porjusberg comes from Sweden's first Lapland expedition in 1862.
In 1916, the intendant G. Vallin Malberget inaugurated a manganese discovery on Porjusberg. During this work, work was carried out to uncover and open two shafts. The results of the samples taken were not satisfactory for profitable mining and the work was stopped that same autumn.
