The Adige-Garda Canal, also known as the Adige-Lake Garda Tunnel or Mori-Torbole Tunnel, is a 10-kilometer-long relief tunnel in northern Italy. It was built between 1939 and 1959 to divert excess water from the Adige River during floods into Lake Garda, thus protecting cities like Verona from flooding. The inlet is near Ravazzone in the municipality of Mori, and the outlet is south of Torbole, with a height difference of approximately 106 meters, allowing the water to drain away solely by gradient. When fully opened, up to 500 cubic meters of water per second can enter the lake, causing only a slight rise in water level – about 3.7 million cubic meters are needed for a one-centimeter rise. Because the cold river water and the sediments it carries can strain Lake Garda's sensitive ecosystem, the tunnel is only opened rarely and specifically when there is a risk of flooding.
