In the 11th century, the Catholic Church of St. George was owned by Gaugraf Balderich von Niederrhein. In the 13th century it became a parish church and was completely renovated between 1856 and 1859 according to plans by Emil von Manger. Only the Romanesque foundations of the 12th-century tower remained as a foundation. On November 9, 1944, the church was badly damaged in an air raid.
