Passo dei Casoni at 999 meters above sea level marks the point where the dirt road on the ridge intersects the provincial road 32 that connects the Val di Vara with the Valle del Magra. The name of the pass derives from the presence in the area of the ancient casoni, that is, large hut-shaped houses that were used, in addition to being a residence, also as a stable, barn and warehouse.
