The hillfort rising on the outskirts of Chereya was discovered in the 19th century. Most likely, it dates back to the early Iron Age or even the Stone Age. Probably, at first, people hid behind the hillfort walls only in case of an impending threat. Streets with temples, residential buildings, outbuildings, guest houses and warehouses appeared here much later.
