The rectory of Sint-Maarten in Optielt dates back to the last quarter of the 17th century, but in its current appearance it is mainly the result of the adaptation works in 1741. Construction of the rectory building began in 1683. However, the construction works were then stopped for unknown reasons. The rectory was not completed until 1698-1699 by pastor Frederik Adams (1695-1717). The building was thoroughly adapted again in 1741. The appearance is largely determined by the central bay, designed as a bell gable, both at the front and the back of the building. The classical design of the door frames with adjoining oval fanlight can also be found in houses that were built in the same period in this region, such as in the refuge house of the Ursulines in Hoegaarden (1739), the rectory of Bunsbeek (1740) and in a house in Outgaarden.
