Auchmithie is a small village on the hillside above a beach and harbour. It's one of the official finishes of the TGO challenge walk. It's also a good destination for a coastal walk from Arbroath where you'll see loads of interesting sea stacks, caves and rock formations. You can walk here and get the bus back or make it a loop using slightly straighter inland paths.
As Mike says the But'n'Ben restaurant is a good stop and refuel.

Village perched on clifftop high above small scenic harbour. Welcoming pub, the Auchmithie Hotel, and an excellent small restaurant, the But’n’Ben. Bus (or lovely cliff walk) to Arbroath then train or bus to Montrose.

Sorry guys but the hotel and pub have been closed for about 15 or so years. I live in the village. The But n' Ben restaurant is incredible though well worth going to in itself. Like going to yer Grannies for tea! Lovely we village and the stoney beach and cliffs are a must to see and hear! There are a number of B&Bs and cottages to rent in the area.
