Kanonenberg Viewpoint in Baurs Park

The park is named after its former owner, the conference councilor Georg Friedrich Baur.
He had a garden designed in the English landscape style with temples, forest huts and a Chinese pagoda tower. Unfortunately, nothing of these staffages has been preserved today.The Katharinenhof was built between 1829 and 1836, and the former depot is also on the site.

Between 1802 and 1817, the Altona merchant and shipowner Friedrich Baur had a landscape park built here in the English style.
He put on the cannon hill to watch his incoming ships and to greet them with cannon salutes. The entire ensemble is now an important garden monument.

The Blankenese upper light, which (still) stands here, will be dismantled in 2021 because the HPA has set new lighthouses. Only the foundation remains in place.
Update 1/18/22: The red and white upper light is now removed. Instead, there is a viewing platform that is above the previous one. If another bench were installed, it would be a perfect place to take a break. But even so, the ascent is worthwhile, the view is fantastic! Maybe the cannon was up here!?
