In 1591, the bishop of Torcello Antonio Grimani, in the report of his pastoral visit, wrote that in Cavallino there was a “well-preserved” chapel, probably located not far from the building now known as the ancient church of Santa Maria Elisabetta.
In 1698, bishop Marco Giustiniani visited the small church dedicated to S. Maria Elisabetta, which was frequented by a small number of inhabitants.

The Church of Santa Maria Elisabetta in Cavallino is a construction referable to the first half of the eighteenth century, but modified several times in the layout. The church owes its name to the fact that the image of Mary's visit to Elizabeth in 1916 is depicted on the high altar. The church preserves an organ from the nineteenth century. Noteworthy is the painting placed on the right altar, with the Dream of St. Joseph, a work of the seventeenth century by Pietro Vecchia (seventeenth century).
