The Camargue marshes are actually the foothills of the Rhône River. And is best known for the Camargue horses (which still live in the wild), the black bulls and the European flamingos. It is a wonderful nature reserve for walking. Anyone who travels to this nature reserve in the summer months will certainly see the European flamingo (Phoenicopterus ruber). Their number in this nature reserve is estimated at approximately 20,000 pairs. You can find them everywhere in the Camargue, but the Ornithological Park of Pont de Gau is the best place to spot flamingos (an entrance fee must be paid)
These animals eat plankton, which they can sift from the water with their mouths in the usual way. The Camargue is the only breeding area of the flamingo in France. And one of the few places near the Mediterranean where you can see them.
