The parish church was first mentioned in a document in 1251.
The old church was closed in 1840. It had suffered severe storms.
Construction work on the new church began in 1842 and lasted until 1846. It is designed to accommodate 800 adults and 400 children.
The tower was only built in 1901/02 due to financial problems.
In the southwest of the church square there is a huge round-arched gate, a walled-in wayside shrine on the outside of the choir apex and a relief panel with a Pieta.
