This original water castle was built around the middle of the 13th century by Sudomír from the House of Tvrdišovec. The first mention of the castle dates back to 1261 and it is one of the oldest castles in the Moravian region.

In the middle of the 16th century, the castle was rebuilt into a Renaissance chateau.

In the first half of the 19th century, the chateau was rebuilt into its current late-classical form according to a design by the Viennese architect Karel Schleps.

In April 1945, the chateau was badly damaged by the passing of the war front.

In 2003, the town council sold the chateau to a private investor. Currently, the chateau looks very dilapidated. Apparently, it is being converted into a hotel.
