Weihermatten
The Weihermatten lake (Plan d’eau Eiermatten) is located near Burnhaupt-le-Bas in southern Alsace. Today's pond is part of a landscape characterized by waters, meadows, and forests, and is mainly used for recreation and fishing today.
Historically, its location in the area of the former German front lines of the First World War is particularly interesting. After the fighting in 1914, the front in Upper Alsace stabilized approximately along the line Cernay–Dannemarie. Burnhaupt-le-Bas was on the German side and was incorporated into an extensive defense system.
