It was built in the third quarter of the 13th century as a flat-roofed, rectangular structure. Originally, the interior was completed in two bays with cross vaults (still recognizable shield arches). The church was first mentioned in a document in 1282.

Duckow (formerly also mentioned as Ducove) has Slavic roots. The first documentary mention dates back to 1226 – in connection with land exchange transactions by the Pomeranian Duke Wartislaw with the Dargun Monastery. The settlement likely took place as early as the end of the 12th / beginning of the 13th century. The over 700-year-old fieldstone church (early Gothic, 3rd quarter of the 13th century) underscores its great age.
