In this area, near the picturesque village of Batenburg, a secondary channel was constructed in the period 2008-2010, which flows with the Maas at high tide. This channel was dug at the spot where the Maas formed a connection with the moat around the ruins of Batenburg until around 1930 and is now a beautiful water-rich area for all kinds of birds. The various water bird species such as the tern, spoonbill, various geese and avocet can be seen very well. There are benches on the side of the water, where you can walk and cycle to your heart's content.
