    The Alms Tower - Obernburg a.M. 🚴‍♂️

The Alms Tower (22.50 m high, base area approx. 5.40 x 5.40 m) is a remaining part of the old city fortifications. It stands to the southeast and bordered the now-abandoned Mühlbach stream. It is the most beautiful tower designed by the fortress architect Wolze Spede and is considered the city's landmark. Many clubs, such as the Local History and Tourism Association and the Obernburg Rotary Club, use its silhouette in their emblems. Upon closer inspection, the Alms Tower actually consists of two towers stacked on top of each other. It is striking that the toilet bay on the Alms Tower faces the city side. Could this have been because the Mühlbach stream flowing outside (because of the laundry facilities and the mill) had to be kept free of feces, and these were disposed of in the city center in the open sewage channels that sloped down towards the Gumpenturm?
The name "Almosenturm" (Alms Tower) recalls the Alms Foundation, an early municipal social institution designed to support innocently impoverished citizens. 🚴‍♂️

The Almsenturm stands on the edge of the historic old town of Obernburg.
One should take the time and visit the Roman Museum nearby
