"The State of Things" is a large-format sculpture by Lutz Fritsch and was developed in 1992 for the State Garden Show. It is located in the Enzauenpark. It consists of two very long red steel pipes that protrude from the ground.

This installation has become an integral part of the Enzauenpark. It shapes the park landscape and can be seen from afar due to its size.

It is remarkable that the appearance of the columns changes depending on the perspective, as the pipes are at a 5° angle to the ground and thus receive an apparent movement and torque. The effect on the viewer also changes depending on the background of the sculpture. If the viewer looks towards the forest, the sculpture has a completely different effect than if they look towards the industrial building.
