According to the legend, in 1521 the Teutonic Knights decided to attack Elbląg. When they wanted to break into the city, the brave Piekarczyk cut with his baker's shovel the thick ropes on which the oak grille in the gate hung. The ropes began to break, and the grate finally slid down. Thanks to this, the Teutonic Knights moved away from the city walls.

The bronze statue of the legendary baker's boy, who, according to legend, saved the city from an attack. The "Piekarczyk" is one of Elbląg's most popular symbols and a great photo opportunity in the Old Town.
Located right next to the historic city wall, the monument can easily be discovered on a walk or bike ride.
