The Diwald carpentry shop in Waidhofen is the only producer of these wooden building blocks in the world. Around 70,000 Matador boxes are produced each year. A total of six employees are responsible for production, inspection and packaging. All machines are prototypes and were gradually invented as little helpers to make operational processes easier. When asked why Matador has always been so popular, Nadine Riehl from Matador Spielwaren GmbH explains: "All the plastic parts that were there years ago have been replaced with wood, just as they were originally. People like that."
