The (Protestant) church was first mentioned in documents in 1318. It "lies on the pilgrimage route/St. James's Way" on Rügen.
Before 1370, it was a pilgrimage church because it possessed a "miraculous" image of Mary. The pilgrimages, however, ended with the sinking of a pilgrim ship in 1372, in which the pilgrims drowned - Source: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/St.-Laurentius-Kirche_(Zudar)
