The Hornberg Basin was built in the 1970s in Herrischried on the summit of the Langes Eck for the purpose of generating peak power, making it the highest dam in Germany. However, it not only serves as a pumped storage reservoir, but also delights visitors with breathtaking views of the Rhine Valley and as far as the Swiss Alps when they take a detour to the viewing points on the dam crest.
