Local History Museum (1785) + Protestant Parish Church - Messel 🚴♂️The town of Messel, with its approximately 4,000 inhabitants, is best known for the prehistoric horse discovered in the Messel Pit, which brought international fame to the small community as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Located in the heart of the forest near Darmstadt and on the edge of the Odenwald, the community celebrated its 1200th anniversary in 2000. 🚴♂️- The Protestant Church on Langgasse is the parish church of Messel. The church building dates back to the beginning of the 19th century, and the tower dates back to the 15th century. The Wegmann organ from 1762, 80 percent of which has been preserved to this day, provides a particularly special acoustic experience. In 2012, the church was extensively renovated with donations from the community and has since been restored to its former glory. The rectory is a Moller building dating from around 1840. The parish hall in the rectory courtyard dates from 1985 and features a circular bench around a fountain. 🚴♂️kirchemessel.de/ueber-uns/unsere-gemeinde- Local History Museum
The former half-timbered town hall from 1785 is located in the center of the village and now houses the Messel Local History Museum. It is housed in the oldest known schoolhouse in the community and features an exhibition on fossil finds, mining, industrial, and local history of Messel. 🚴♂️
