Just before entering the monastery grounds, on the left side, there is the Stone of St. James, which is part of the trail. The Way of St. James, in Spanish Camino de Santiago, is one of the most famous pilgrimage routes in Europe. This route leads through Poland, Germany and France to Santiago de Compostela in Spain. According to legend, the miraculously discovered grave of one of the apostles, St. James the Elder, is located there. Since 1993, the Way of St. James has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The described route is a section of the Polish route that leads from the border with Lithuania through the towns of Wigry, Suwałki, Olecko, Giżycko, Kętrzyn, Olsztyn, Iława, and then through Toruń, Poznań, to the southern border of Poland.
