The old town of Schwerte, a historic Hanseatic city on the Ruhr River, captivates with its medieval charm and numerous well-preserved half-timbered houses. A stroll through the narrow streets, especially along Mühlenstraße, Kötterbachstraße, Wallstraße, Nordstraße, Westenort, and Große Marktstraße, allows you to experience the city's architectural diversity and history up close.

The central point of the old town is the market square with the imposing St. Victor's Church, whose leaning tower is a striking landmark. The church, built in the 14th and 15th centuries, houses an impressive carved Antwerp altarpiece and is known far beyond the city limits. Directly next to the church is the Old Town Hall, dating from 1547 and now housing the Ruhr Valley Museum.

Another highlight is the 14th-century Calvin House, one of the oldest buildings in the city. The old town, with its numerous cafés, restaurants, and small shops, invites visitors to linger and offers a glimpse into Schwerte's rich history and culture. Regular city tours are offered for those interested, providing deeper insights into the history and special features of the old town.
