Second largest source of the north. Very interesting natural spectacle. Here some benches were set up, so you can watch in peace.

Natural wonder of the shrink spring Lüneburg Heath
A natural wonder of the Lüneburg Heath Nature Park is the source of shrinkage.
At 60 liters per second, the source is the second water-richest source in Lower Saxony after the Rhume source in the Harz region.
On an easily accessible spring pot you can see wonderfully how the water pushes out of the sandy bottom from below and whirls up real sand fountains and deposits reddish iron oxides and turquoise-colored manganese oxides.
The spring water has a constant temperature of approx. 9 degrees Celsius and never freezes, even in winter. This is particularly important for the local animal world, which also has reliable water access in winter.
The source of shrinkage has been protected since 1936.
