As soon as the tide takes possession of the mudflats, salt marshes and sandbanks in the Oosterschelde, hundreds of coastal birds migrate to Klein Beijerpolder to rest.
Oystercatchers, sandpipers, golden plovers and various species of terns wait fraternally side by side until the nutrient-rich parts of the Oosterschelde dry up again. The shell island in the middle of the creek is a popular breeding ground for species such as the avocet, little ringed plover and oystercatcher.
